Kages' Peter Pan themed Birthday cake

Can you see the improvement from my last cake to this one? My son, Kage, saw the movie Hook, then decided that he was Peter Pan. So he decided that he wanted to have a Peter Pan birthday party.

So, to explain the cake a little bit.
The Cake is multicolored to represent the food fight from Hook. Think about it.. or just watch the movie.

The ship is The Jolly Roger.. aka Hooks Ship.

Things I learned from this cake:
1. Home made fondant tastes better than Wilton's
2. Not only do I bake good cakes.. I bake cute kids :)
3. Painting fondant is harder than it looks... but it really brings this cake alive..

Farewell cake for co-worker

Okay, so this is the first cake I made in September 2010. I was preparing for my sons birthday in November, where I wanted to do a fondant cake.. So I trekked down to Walmart and picked up some Wilton ready made fondant. Baked up a white cake, made some caramel icing and dyed my fingers green.. It took me about 3 hours and this was the end result.

It was such a great learning experience for me, and I thought it was pretty enough to take to work.

Things I learned from this cake:
1. Wilton fondant is like leather.. the box claimed a mellow taste.. I claim unflavored taffy.
2. Fondant and water do not mix.
